The Things We Can Not Touch

Two strangers shaped by profound loss find unexpected connection in the mid-century modern architecture of Joseph Eichler's California homes.

About the Film

Beth is a reserved architectural historian. Adam is the reluctant caretaker of an Eichler development facing demolition. Their meeting is accidental. Their collaboration – to save the houses – is not.

The Things We Can Not Touch is an intimate study of grief, preservation, and the quiet architecture of new attachment. Set across the distinctive open-plan homes of Joseph Eichler, the film uses the tension between ruin and restoration as the formal logic of its love story. It is a film about two people learning to rebuild their lives with the same care and deliberateness they bring to old buildings.
