Synopsis
Ambrosio (Vincent Cassel) is the most revered monk in 18th-century Madrid – a man of iron virtue and towering reputation. When a mysterious stranger infiltrates his monastery, the walls of his faith begin to crack. Temptation, obsession, and a Faustian reckoning follow.
Dominik Moll's adaptation of Matthew Gregory Lewis's classic 1796 gothic novel is a portrait of a man destroyed by the very piety that defined him – visceral, unsettling, and visually immaculate.
